Join BKVP on a one week expedition that takes you to a great variety of unique and interesting operations. The trip is designed to railfan in the Pittsburgh region, but the route on the way and the way back is indirect, with various railroads being explored. The majority of this trip was during some great mid-spring weather, and we covered railroading at some of the "normal" locations, but also explored and found some nice "off the beaten path" spots! In this program, you'll see Class I's, Regional's, Class III's, and Industrial lines. Informative narration provides the account of the trip, but also provides history and other information about the railroads and locations that are seen!

Great action featuring Conrail!

This program gives you numerous & detailed views of Selkirk Yard, near Albany, NY, plus many nearby shots from the Boston Line, the River Line and the Chicago Line. When we filmed in the late 1990's, Selkirk & vicinity was becoming even more interesting with lots of foreign power showing up, and you'll see plenty in this program! Informative, but minimal narration will give you the facts & figures, and brief on-screen graphics will identify almost all trains and their locations. Highlights of this program include foreign power in the Conrail era, inside shots from the Hump Tower, dispatching center, and engine shops plus aerial views!

In early 1998 BROKEN KNUCKLE VIDEO began filming Conrail at a beautiful and unremarked section of the Boston Line. This 30 mile stretch offers a 1 mile bridge over the Hudson River, at its west end, and The State Line Tunnel at its east end. 14 public grade crossings allow access to some beautiful photo locations, and along with 4 talking defect detectors, approaching trains never come by surprise! The grades are not as severe as the climb through the Massachusetts Berkshires, but a roller coaster terrain makes things interesting for train crews and the Berkshire Dispatcher!

EMD’s unique AC-Traction locomotive that fell in an unusual position between the more common SD70MAC’s and SD90MAC’s. Only 30 of them were produced, and all became the property of Conrail. These engines became standard power for many freights on The Boston Line. No video producer has covered The Boston Line during this period like BROKEN KNUCKLE VIDEO PRODUCTIONS, and we’re proud to release this program featuring SD80MAC’s hauling train after train through Eastern New York, The Berkshires, Palmer, Charlton, Framingham, and more. All 30 of these engines are seen!

On June 1st, 1999, Conrail became CSX Transportation in the Northeast. BKVP is pleased to announce that we covered the transition from several months before the takeover date to several months after. We were right there at Selkirk Yard through the stroke of midnight on the big day. See the last westbound and eastbound freights on the Boston Line under Conrail ownership, plus the first eastbound freight under CSX control! Action is focused in the Berkshire Mountains, where Conrail had to, and now CSX has to pull heavy trains over one heck of a challenging grade!

The challenge of crossing the Alleghenies was one of the Pennsylvania Railroads biggest feats. It remains helper territory to this day. In 1992 we visited the area covering Conrail from Altoona to South Fork. Lots of great action was filmed from many locations, some not so easily accessible any longer.

This program was formerly part of a VHS program called "Conrail's Mountain Main Lines" The original footage has been completely re-edited and re-mastered for DVD. There is some footage not seen in the VHS program.

The Old Boston & Albany Line featured a major challenge when it crossed the Berkshire Mountains in Western Massachusetts. Conrail took over in 1976, and although helpers were hardly ever used, many trains were brought to their knees climbing the hill. Lots of great action from many scenic locations is seen, with a variety of power, winter drama & the short-lived Bow (NH) Coal trains.
