We’ll begin at Sayre by boarding the train with Bill and the
crew to head up the Auburn Branch to Auburn. From Auburn, we’ll
backtrack a bit and head down the Auburn branch on the last plow in
1966. From Freeville, we’ll look at the Cortland branch including
the last trip to Canastota. Then, we’ll travel the Auburn & Ithaca
Branch. To conclude Volume 1, we’ll make a run on the Seneca Falls
Branch to Geneva.

Near Geneva station, we will climb aboard the last trip to
Naples on October 20th, 1970. From Geneva, we will travel the main
line to Sayre. At Sayre, we will ride the D&H run to Binghamton. We
round out operations in NY with a Manchester run from Sayre to
Gilbert Interlocking. We will then take a look at operations in
Pennsylvania on a qualifying run on the State Line & Sullivan
Branch. We’ll conclude operations under the LV with a main line run
from Sayre to Coxton. Finally, we view operations under Conrail.

along with a crew aboard the train as well as view scenes trackside
as we head west. Important facilities at Sayre, Ithaca, Geneva,

April 1973 to early June 1975 and the arrival of the GE U23Bs on
the Valley. Locations include Bethlehem, Allentown, Catasauqua,

visit Cayuta and Lockwood, NY. Also make a visit to western PA
to capture the Penn Central at Horse Shoe Curve and other well
known railfanning locations on the PC.

In Volume 5 of Railfanning with the Bednars, we'll look at the last
10 months of operation before Conrail.
Deteriorated facilities, uncertainty and turmoil made for some of
the darkest days on the railroads. Derailments and other issues were
common place. But even with these challenges, operations continued
as usual. Before we look at the last 10 months, we'll take a brief
look back at found footage taken between 1973 and 1975, including
footage of the wreck at Parryville.
