March 3rd

CSXT #1, "The Spirit of West Virginia" is trailing V806 at MP 200.7.
The CSXT roster is the only class one railroad that goes this low
for an everyday freight service engine. (KCS operates an FP9A for
special service)

March 10th

Just a week later #1 returns,
this time on the lead of V805.  This was also a unique train because of the
odd number symbol for an eastbound train.  It is seen
at CP196.

March 6th

CP "Red Barn" SD40-2F
#9000 made an appearance
leading on Q366.  I chased and caught it at Fonda, after my first attempt to catch it at MP198 was foiled by Q159 on track #1 blocking my view.

March 8th

The Red Barn returned on Q626 two days later.  This time a Norfolk Southern
engine trailed.  Shortly afterward, Q390 comes along with a nice 3-unit
Union Pacific lashup.  This shot was from the grounds of Lock 14 in
Fort Plain, NY (MP 201.3)

March 7th

It was pretty cold, but I was bundled up and made my way up the steel ladder attached to one of the grain silos at the
Nelliston freight house.  The property is owned by railfan Timothy Phallon.  The silos have since been removed making
these shots impossible to repeat.  First is Q118, and then the weekly UPS hotshot, Q153.

March 19th

3 westbound trains were seen during mid afternoon at CP 196.  Each train has a unique look.  First is S621 with an ex-UP, now CREX leader.  Then it's Q271 with a CEFX leading.  Finally a quartet of new ES44DC's (GEVO's) pull another second section train, this time it's S381

March 25th

Old and new... The SD80MAC's are over a decade old, so when word came
out that the un-repainted #805 was headed east on Q156, I caught it at MP200.7.
Soon afterward Q390 shows up towing 6 new ES44DC's.

March 29th

My first job since moving to the area a year earlier was 1/4 mile from the tracks at Fort Plain, so this view became the norm during lunch breaks.  Of course this colorful lashup on Q380 wasn't the norm.  Note the third engine which is lettered for the New England Central RR.

March 31st

Another day, another lunch break, and another P048 which was a common
mid-day sight.  Finally I cracked and took a picture.

April 20th

Some lunch breaks were better than others...  Q381 at left, and Q390 at right.  The building in the background is a large salt & sand storage facility.  Ironically, it is not served by the railroad.

April 29th

An afternoon at CP188 yielded
CN power on Q627 (left),
and IC power on Q364 (right).

May 5th

A favorite spot since moving to the area is Lock 13 (Randall, NY. MP 189.5).  Early morning light is great, and a sharp UP lashup on Q161 was nice too.

  May 17th

Yellow, green and orange were the colors of the moment as Q381 makes its' way west at MP 201.3 through young spring foliage.

May 29th

Q117 at 6:40PM is the result
of a derailment just west of Amsterdam the day before.  The derailment involved empty ethanol cars, but was not serious.
A fleet of trains began running at this point.

June 16th

Just a nice afternoon, and a few trains
at MP 200.3.  At left is Q156 with
the first of the second batch of ES44DC's in the lead.  At right is Q381 with a new ES44DC, in the new BNSF paint scheme and an old SD45
(carbody at least), leased unit.
