Kingman Canyon  MP 519.4

I would start this day back at
Kingman Canyon.  This time
from Old Trails Road, which
runs in between the 2 lines.

Since my arrival on this day at 0750,
14 trains had already passed with not  more than 20 minutes between them.
I was catching the non-stop action on
video, and decided this slow moving
train at 1049 would get captured on
35mm film.  This is the 15th train, and
it came after a brutal lull of 28 minutes!

Nelson Canyon  MP 460.5

I made the "escape" from Kingman, and with my
destination for the night being Flagstaff, began the  eastbound trip.  Nelson Canyon accessed from IR19
out of Peach Springs was my first stop.  This was the
third of four trains I saw.  The others were
captured on video.

Nelson Lime Plant  MP 459.3

The giant complex served as a nice backdrop for
this long westbound "Premium" intermodal/stack train.
The "P" designation is becoming less common as
BNSF's even faster "Z" trains gain popularity with
shippers.

Yampai Summit  MP 452

Although the action was great, including a pretty well timed meet
just as I had arrived, I was fighting clouds, and didn't have much
of a shot with 35mm photography.  However about a half hour
before sunset, the clouds opened at the right spot, and I was
fortunate enough to see 4 more trains.  The first had a sharp
SD75M on the lead, and a fading rainbow over the hillside.

A going away shot of the second train,
and then I tried a backlit shot of the third.
Another westbound before sunset would
be nice.

Oh yeah.  This was only a matter of what I wanted to
concentrate on... photos or video.  I chose the first
option, and set up the videocamera on a fixed shot.
I came back from a 1996 trip to The Seligman Sub
in the Flagstaff area with a disappointingly small amount
of good photos.  Not this time.

As I drove away, and would soon
continue east on Rte 66, the stare
of the Steer (sorry about that)
invited a shot with my digital camera.
