Product Description
The Herington Sub has a long history: Rock Island, Cotton Belt/Southern Pacific and now Union Pacific. But, in 1993 the line between Kansas City and Herington, Kansas was solid Southern Pacific territory. We'll see a variety of motive power, from home-grown SP and SSW units to oddities like the "Kodachrome" paint scheme from the failed Southern Pacific/Santa Fe merger. Foreign road power makes many appearances. And we'll see plenty of Union Pacific traffic as the SP shared the UP line via trackage rights from KC to Topeka. Many locations and trains are marked with on-screen captions. This program was shot using professional equipment of the time, but is not up to the clarity of today's high-definition video. It is however an excellent snapshot of an important time in the nation's railroad history. The DVD is divided into over 70 chapters allowing quick access to various program sections.
